Jagoda u Supermarketu

The movie we have most recently finished watching in class is titled Jagoda u Supermarketu. The movie is about a new supermarket in Belgrade called Yugo-America market. One day after the grand- opening of the new supermarket, a crazed man, enters the supermarket with a gun and takes several hostages. His claim for doing this was injustice after his grandmother was heckled for only wanting to buy strawberries ( the woman that heckled his grandmother is the main character). After a several hours of standoff between police and the hostage taker, the cashier and the hostage taker begin to have some sort of relationship. Although the hostage taker, Marko, is still unaware that jagoda, the cashier, is the one that heckled his grandmother. After their relationship kicks off, a man breaks in and attempts to kill Marko and take Jagoda away. At the same time, the police decide to storm the supermarket and they capture Marko. At this point, Jagoda admits that she was the one that heckled his grandmother. After this confession, Marko seems to understand and the movie ends with both of them exiting the supermarket together.

Nikola Tesla Movie Reflection

The movie that we have just finished watching in class today was titled, Nikola Tesla. This movie, the second one we have been able to watch this year, was about the life of the Serbian Scientist, Nikola Tesla. The movie goes over his life from when he first came to America, to working for Edison and so on. The movie ends just when Tesla discovers that he could harness the natural energy on earth, and give to the world. This would be environmentally healthy and would be limitless. But, the man financing him, J.P Morgan, being a business man, will not support the idea since it'll make his company and himself lose money. Tesla is confused as to why Morgan wouldn't understand that he could change the world. The movie depicts that Tesla spent much of the later years of his life wondering why Morgan wouldn't contact him

Montevideo Movie Reflection

Montevideo was a Serbian movie released to the public in December of 2010. The story is narrated by a little kid Stanoje. The story follows Tirke, a local boy who instead of getting a job, he only dreams of play for BSC,(Belgrade Sports Club.)  One day, a man who just happens to be working on Tirke's street, notices him soccer skills and asks him to go on trial at BSC. From here, Tirke gets accepted into BSC and plays his first game. Then, it becomes evident that a very first world cup in Montevideo. Soon, they form a team which has Tirke and Moša, and try to form a team but, without any Croatian players, the team cannot travel plus, they are having trouble getting money to travel to Montevideo, which is the capital of Uruguay. When it seems as if their is no hope in going to the world cup, they arrange a friendly with Bulgaria which The kingdom of Serbia wins by a very large number of goals. After the game, some Serbians are able to convince the Bulgarians to back out of the world cup. After the win, the team is able to earn the money they need to go to Montevideo through Stanonje who is a shoe shiner. As all of this is happening, both Tirke and Moša are involved in some sort of love thing like you would expect from any kind of money these days.

What I enjoyed about this money was unlike most movies you see in theaters, it had soccer, a sport which I think should appear in more videos than it currently does. I also liked how to movie was able to almost get that feel as if it was taking place in the late 1930's. It was able to get the costumes, buildings, and vehicles from the time spot on.

Moive Reflection

The movie that we have been watching the last few days is called Zona Zamfirova. It's about a girl who lives in the city of Niš around the end of the 19th century. Zona is the daughter of a wealthy man. The movie takes her through a period of one or two years in which she is in love with the goldsmith of Niš Mane. But because they do not come form the same social class, they could not marry. But in the end as all love stories go, they do manage to get married right at the end of the movie.

Because it takes place during the end of the 19th century, you get to see a lot of memories of the Turkish empire. We mainly see these memories in the clothes such as the Fez, a popular hat that is widely popular in Turkey and in most middle eastern and Muslim countries. Also, the clothes are resemble Turkish culture as well. In this movie, you can also see a type of Turkish coffee that comes in a small cup. In this film, you can also see some religious facts in this movie. One thing I noticed is that when all the people leave the church, you need to cross yourself.  Also, I learned a lot about the men of Serbia from this movie. I learned that they all like to drink and socialize in bars.

So in conclusion, this movie Zona Zamfirova  takes you on a journey through Serbian traditions and customs as well as having a happy ending.
